Tiny houses are the most inspiring in terms of design because the less space you have to work with the more inventive and original you have to be. There’s a lot of thought that goes into designing a tiny house. Architects and designers are always coming up with great idea for how to optimize them. One of the latest projects in this sphere is a little house in Melbourne, Florida which is called Boehm. It was designed and built by studio Movable Roots.
This tiny house has a deck at the front which basically extends the living area outsideThe deck is raised just like the house itself which gives it a lightweight appearancetwo French doors with glass panels mark the entrance from the deck
Starting with the exterior, there’s quite a bit going on here. The house has a slightly raised floor which gives it this lightweight, floating vibe. It also has a slanted roof which is not just for the looks but also serves as practical purpose. The exterior walls feature a mix of vertical and horizontal siding for added texture and they’re painted in shades of grey. There’s also a big deck attached to the front of the house which is not something you usually see when it comes to tiny homes.
Inside the limited space means the social areas are all combined into one cozy roomThe living room couch is facing the two doors and gets a direct view of the deckUnderneath the couch there’s a platform with built-in storage and a slide-out dog bed
The entrance is marked by a pair of French doors that let in natural light and it leads straight into the living area. This is where you can find a couch raised on a storage platform with built-in drawers underneath. There’s also a slide-out dog bed that gives loyal companions a comfortable place to sit and sleep on. The kitchen is small but well-designed, with a full-size refrigerator, plenty of storage spaces and a washer/dryer which marks the transition into the bathroom.
The kitchen has a lot of storage space inside the upper and lower cabinetsThere’s also a full-size fridge, a washer and dryer and more storage on the opposite wallThe washing machine has a little counter on top and a storage cabinet above itIn the main bedroom there’s a little floating desk which can be used when the bed is upThe Murphy bed takes up most of the floor space in this room when it’s downthe guest bedroom is up at the top and can be reached by climbing a ladder
Although the house only measures 265 square feet, somehow it has two bedrooms. The main one has a Murphy bed surrounded by storage cabinetry, a fold-down desk and two sliding barn doors. The guest bedroom is actually a loft space which is where the slanted roof comes into play. It’s small but nice and cozy and very convenient. Other that that, there’s also a bathroom with a walk-shower, also accessible through a sliding barn door. In the main area a couple of pull-out tables create a casual dining setup whenever needed. There’s also plenty of other clever features hidden throughout this tiny house just waiting to be discovered.
The bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen and has a walk-in shower with lovely marble tiles on the wallsThe main bedroom is positioned opposite to the bathroom, on the other side of this tiny houseThe bedroom features a barn door, just like the bathroomThe sliding barn doors on the bathroom and bedroom and painted greyThe lower cabinets are white while the upper ones have a dark stained finishThe main bedroom has a corner window that lets in some natural sunlightThe bathroom has a small window as well just to the side of the vanity
